AHS 20-Hour Breastfeeding eLearning Course: Informed Feeding Decisions

ABOUT THIS MODULE
Curious about how you can best support families with their infant and child feeding decisions? This module will provide you with the knowledge and skills to facilitate Informed Feeding Decisions (IFDs) across the continuum of care. A note on inclusive terminology: This module uses gender-neutral terminology whenever possible. In some instances, gender-specific terminology is used to accurately reflect the literature being cited. Unlike other modules in the AHS 20-hour Breastfeeding Course, this module does not assume that parents have made a decision to breastfeed. Therefore, the term “parent or caregiver” is used throughout. When referring to breastfeeding, it is recognized that some breastfeeding parents may not identify as mothers or as female, but as male, non-binary or gender diverse. Some breastfeeding parents may not identify with the terms breasts or breastfeeding, and prefer alternative terminology, such as chest, chestfeeding or human milk feeding. In all circumstances, health care professionals will utilize patient and family centered care to be responsive to the particular context, self-identified gender, pronouns and preferred terminology of the families they support.
