Thanks Sharon. It is difficult to see ourselves in a video review but hopefully the benefit of being able to step back and reflect is worth the discomfort.
December 14, 2022 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43833Heather ArmsonParticipantI’m sorry you were unable to access the video. Just to reassure you that they do not ‘live’ anywhere once they are sent to you. We do not look at them as they are for your reflection only. Hopefully the issue of feedback will be clearer after our discussion tonight.
December 14, 2022 at 1:31 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43832Heather ArmsonParticipantThanks for the thoughtful feedback and the recognition that the role as a peer coach has different nuances and repercussions than coaching a resident. Hope you feel like you are progressing after the session tonight.

December 14, 2022 at 1:27 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43830Heather ArmsonParticipantThanks for your reflections on your videos. When planning the course, we felt this reflective step was crucial to identifying and improving coaching skills. It is great to hear about your learning moments and hope you can apply them in the next session.
December 14, 2022 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43829Heather ArmsonParticipantExcellent point. This prevents you from focusing on the next great question and instead being able to listen for those points in the conversation where a question will provoke deeper thought.
December 14, 2022 at 1:22 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43828Heather ArmsonParticipantHi Kim, glad you are able to join us. I look forward to seeing you tonight.
November 30, 2022 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43685Heather ArmsonParticipantMelanie, I think it is good to make the distinctions but I suspect we all occasionally blur the lines between teaching and coaching. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it helps to be very conscious when we are crossing over and question if this is the best way to address the issue brought to coaching.
November 30, 2022 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43684Heather ArmsonParticipantHi Tina, problem solving is what we spend our whole life doing so it’s not surprising that it is challenging to step away from this approach. I hope tonight will provide some more insight into how to do so.
November 30, 2022 at 6:06 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43683Heather ArmsonParticipantThey do require a lot of practice and I encourage people to think about them in other areas of life to become more proficient.
November 30, 2022 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43682Heather ArmsonParticipantI think as physicians we are often better at noticing nuances. The next step is to check out those details to see if they relate to the issue you are addressing in coaching. To get there, we often need to ask very good questions. Hope the webinar helps with this.
November 30, 2022 at 6:02 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43681Heather ArmsonParticipantI agree that slowing down is one of the first steps to good coaching. By being more thoughtful, we hopefully open up spaces for more reflection and potentially more change.
November 30, 2022 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43680Heather ArmsonParticipantSo true Chantelle! But providing space for reflection is so much more effective than quick responses that may not capture the essence of the reflection needed. Practicing providing silence is quite difficult but you may experience some settings where you can try it out to see what happens.
November 30, 2022 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43679Heather ArmsonParticipantHi Sonia, framing questions is one of the focuses of the webinar. However, we have also provided some other focused references if you want to explore this aspect further- they are in the tools and resource section and include books but also video clips.
November 30, 2022 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Module 1: Pre-Workshop Discussion – Core Coaching Skills #43678Heather ArmsonParticipantTo stop giving advice is one of the hardest skills to master. You may provide some ideas but I would suggest they should occur only if the coachee has exhausted their ideas. If you can hold back, the coachee will often arrive at similar solution and when they do so, it is so much more powerful than your provision of ‘the answer’.
