  There is an increased risk of pregnancy complications and adverse outcomes when a woman gains weight above or below the recommended ranges during her pregnancy. Evidence shows that pre-pregnancy BMI and weight gained during pregnancy are both independent factors for maternal and child health outcomes (JOGC, 2016).
