On April 1, 2019, the Alberta government approved amendments to the Health Professions Act (HPA) to protect patients. Under the new rules:
- Healthcare professional proven guilty of sexual abuse towards a patient will face permanent license revocation, and
- Healthcare providers proven guilty of sexual misconduct towards a patient face will mandatory suspension.
‘Patient Relations’ education is required under the HPA and necessary to renew your CPSA practice permit. The Patient Relations: Part One module will help you understand the amendments as well as related CPSA Standards of Practice and recommendations.
