    Ayaaz Sachedina MD FRCPC

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Interventional Cardiology, Libin Cardiovascular Institute, University of Calgary


    Dr. Ayaaz K. Sachedina is a Canadian interventional cardiologist who completed his medical training at the University of Toronto and University of Western Ontario. He also pursued additional training in Interventional Heart Failure at the Center for Advanced Cardiopulmonary Therapeutics and Transplant, Texas Medical Center, at the University of Texas in Houston, where his focuses included percutaneous mechanical support devices, management of cardiogenic shock, and

    TAVI. He has been recognized by the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, Professional Association of Residents of Ontario, and the Governor General of Canada’s office for his efforts in education and community advocacy.

    Dr. Sachedina’s interests also include simulation in medical education, the use of percutaneous mechanical circulatory support devices in cardiogenic shock, and critical care resuscitation.

    Dr. Jeffrey Shaw has completed training in Cardiology and Critical Care with sub‐specialization in echocardiography.

    Mike Slawnych MD FRCPC

    Dr. Slawnych was initially trained as an engineer. He currently has dual interested in cardiology and palliative care.

    Dr. Clegg practices pediatric and adult congenital cardiac electrophysiology in Calgary (Alberta Children’s Hospital, Foothills Medical Centre and Peter Loughhed Centre). Her practice includes inherited arrhythmias, CIEDS and ablation.

    Glen L. Sumner MD FRCPC

    Dr. Sumner has been a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Cardiac Sciences at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, University of Calgary since 2008. He completed his medical training at Queen’s University in Kingston (Ontario, Canada) and practiced as a rural family physician for seven years prior to embarking on clinical training in cardiology, echocardiography, and cardiac electrophysiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Sumner’s main clinical and research interests are in cardiac resynchronization therapy patient selection, cardiac device implantation, and cardiac device programming.

    Bert Vandenberk MD PhD

    Dr. Vandenberk is currently a 1st year Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellow at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Prior

    to this Arrhythmia Training, he completed his Cardiology training at the University of Leuven in Belgium. While at Leuven, Dr. Vandenberk also completed PhD research doctorate in Biomedical Sciences entitled: Non‐Invasive Risk Stratification of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Sudden Cardiac Death.

For 20 years he practiced as an interventional cardiologist. Currently, he has a general cardiology practice and supervises a translational research laboratory.

    Dr. Vikas Kuriachan joined the Cardiology / Cardiac Electrophysiology group at the Libin Institute and University of Calgary in July 2010 after completing a year of complex ablation training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor, Director of the Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Services (Calgary), and a Wellness Officer for Cardiac Sciences. His Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology training were in Calgary and Internal Medicine at University of British Columbia. He was Calgary Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 in 2013. His clinical and research interests include ablation, in particular VT ablation, device implantation, complex extraction, and new electrophysiology technologies.

    Getting Started with Zoom

    This course will be held using the virtual meeting application, Zoom. You can join Zoom sessions using a desktop or laptop computer, tablet, or mobile device. For help setting up and/or connecting on your device, please see the relevant articles below.

    For interactive workshop sessions, you should connect to the Zoom session on a device that has a webcam and microphone. Laptop computers, tablets, and mobile devices often have built-in cameras and microphones. If you are connecting on a desktop computer, you will need to use an external webcam and microphone. You may also call into a Zoom session using a phone instead of connecting with a computer microphone. We strongly recommend joining your session from a laptop or desktop computer rather than a tablet or mobile device.

    Joining From a Computer

    There are two ways to join a Zoom session: (1) using the Zoom Desktop Client, or (2) connecting through your web browser. It is recommended you use the Zoom Desktop Client.

    Updating Your Zoom Client

    You can update your Zoom version through the (1) desktop client or by (2) manually downloading the newest version. For a step-by-step guide, click here.

    1. Open your Zoom desktop client
      • Click on your profile picture, then click ‘Check for Updates’
      • If a new version is available, it will be downloaded an installed
    2. Go to https://zoom.us/support/download to initiate the download of the latest version

    You must have your own ECG Caliper and Ruler on both days of the virtual course for participating in the small group online exercise of reviewing ECGs.

    If you don’t already have this equipment, they can be purchased from multiple stores within Canada. Here is a list of suggested ECG Caliper and Ruler you can buy online, however the purchase of your equipment is not limited to this list.

    The online pre-course activity has been certified up to:
