Speaker Bios
Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, University of Alberta
Dr. Pauline Head has been caring for patients who have experienced sexual and domestic violence since 1985, as part of her full time career as an Emergency Physician in Calgary. She worked with a Family Physician, Dr. Wachowich, CCASA, Police and Justice to create the multidisciplinary Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team (CSART) in 1996. The CSART stand alone clinic at Sheldon Chumir was opened in 2008 as a pilot advocacy project (Connect Family and Sexual violence). She collaborated with AHS legal and all team members to develop the Third Option program in 2011, which is now available throughout Alberta. She has testified in all levels of court, for sexual assault and non-fatal strangulation cases and has provided expert opinion for defense lawyers and prosecutors in other provinces.

Dr. Rabiya Jalil is a Calgary-based family physician and an associate professor with the Department of Family Medicine. In her practice, Dr. Jalil primarily serves patients with complex medical and social needs with a focus on sexual and reproductive health. She has been a physician on the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team since 2012. Dr. Jalil spearheaded the creation of the Alberta Sexual Assault Course and Conference with the CME Office and currently serves as the course chair.
Calgary Police Service, Child Abuse Unit, Luna Centre
With over a decade of experience as a Registered Social Worker specializing in the disability field, Lindsey transitioned to law enforcement in 2011, joining the Calgary Police Service (CPS) with a clear and unwavering passion for addressing domestic violence. With a strong foundation in frontline policing and a deep commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, Lindsey transitioned into a pivotal role with the Domestic Conflict Response Team (DCRT), where police officers and social workers collaborated to manage high-risk, chronic domestic violence cases.
In 2015, Lindsey returned to frontline policing, continuing to build on her expertise. By 2019, she joined the Domestic Violence Team, investigating the top 1% of Calgary’s most violent domestic cases. During this time, Lindsey became CPS’s subject matter expert on strangulation, contributing significantly to the service’s understanding and response to this critical issue.
In 2024, Lindsey was promoted to Detective and is currently assigned to the Child Abuse Unit at the Luna Centre, where she continues to focus on protecting and supporting vulnerable children and families.
