ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course provides neurologists and trainees with a case-based approach to diagnose and manage patients with autoimmune encephalitis (AIE). The aim is to increase adherence to the Canadian Consensus Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Autoimmune Encephalitis.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this module, you will be equipped to:

  • Recognize the importance of completing the appropriate workup for patients with suspected AIE.
  • Interpret CSF and serum neural antibody test results and recognize the limitations of antibody testing.
  • Describe clinical and radiological red flags for misdiagnosis of autoimmune encephalitis.
  • Apply the 3-step process of malignancy workup in patients with suspected AIE.
  • Recognize the importance of timely first-line treatments for autoimmune encephalitis patients.
